We walk the property, talk through what you want the space to do, and lay out a plan and plant list as part of the estimate. Grading and drainage get decided in the design, not after the patio floods — and larger plans can be staged over seasons so nothing has to be torn out later.
Fresh mulch and a crisp edge is the cheapest thing that makes a whole property look maintained. We clean the bed out first, re-cut the edge by hand or set steel, then lay mulch two to three inches deep — enough to hold moisture and smother weed seed without burying plant crowns.
We plant for conditions that actually exist here — heat, clay, and the odd hard freeze — so the yard still looks intentional in year three. That includes new sod over properly stripped and graded soil when a lawn is past repair, with a three-week establishment watering plan.
Hedges sheared, shrubs pruned to natural form, small trees lifted and thinned. Timing matters: spring bloomers get pruned after they flower so you don't lose a year of blooms, and we don't top trees. Every cutting leaves with us.
We can add drip irrigation to beds, audit and repair sprinkler zones, and set a controller to a deep, infrequent seasonal schedule. Low-voltage LED lighting goes in the same plan — path and step lights, uplighting on specimen trees and stone — with conduit run before the hardscape when we're building both.
We select for North Texas heat and clay, not for whatever looked good at the nursery in April.
